Lewis*Staples was Erick’s first serious band. It started out as a solo acoustic singer-songwriter act in 1995 (under a different moniker) and only performed as a full band on July 26, 2001. Back then, all Erick had to record songs with is a borrowed Fostex 4-track cassette recorder, an cheap nylon acoustic guitar, and several notebooks full of songs written from 1995 up to 2004. This was also a period when Erick started trying out electronic music sampling, as evidenced in some of the songs in this anthology.
Most of the songs in this collection were salvaged from dusty cassette demo tapes, so don’t expect studio-quality recordings. Think of this as a musical time capsule from a singer-songwriter who tried his best to wear his heart on his sleeve.
